Verndale Enrollment Above Projections at 462 Students

The Verndale School Board held their regular meeting on September 14.
Administrative Reports
Principal Katie Bolland reported a smooth start to the school year, with a well-attended open house, and 38 new students. She noted that a stricter tardy policy has led to clearer hallways after the bell and that the traditional senior-kindergarten playground photo will be delayed until the new playground is finished. Bolland outlined teacher professional learning work on unit planning, standards-based grading, and said more staff will complete phase two LETRS literacy training this year.
Upcoming events include Picture Day, a 7–12 assembly with illusionist and motivational speaker Caleb Morgan, the first two-hour late start on October 7, and homecoming at the end of September. She also shared that she is participating in statewide leadership and CTE (career and technical education) networks to better support program approvals and staffing.
Superintendent Jeannie Mayer reported that K–12 enrollment is holding slightly above projections at 462 students, with preschool very full and kindergarten higher than expected. She reviewed the updated e-learning plan, which now allows three traditional snow days before moving online, and aligned K–6 expectations as elementary with 7–12 as secondary...
