Verndale Grocery and Treasures Too to close pending approval
by Trinity Gruenberg
The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Tuesday, June 25.
Verndale Grocery and
Treasures Too Closing
Cheri Dodds and Rose Bakke discussed their plan to close the Verndale Developmental Achievement Center (DAC) location (Verndale Grocery and Treasures Too).
Bakke explained in the last three years they have not been making their budget at the Verndale location.
“It doesn’t make sense to keep running a grocery store and thrift store in Verndale when we can’t make all of our bills,” said Bakke.
They would move their clients and employees to their main location in Sebeka, stating they have plenty of room for them and that the store there is doing well.
They have a form to submit to the Department of Human Services to get approval to close the Verndale location if the commissioners agree and sign the document.
The DAC has two routes to transport clients to locations and where they need to go. Bakke added that one individual who lives in Verndale does not like to travel and has tried to travel to Sebeka but chooses not to. They would discuss it.
The DAC will try to sell the building in Verndale....
