Verndale School Board: Community Concern For Youth Faces Challenges

The Verndale School Board held their regular meeting on October 2.

Community Concern for Youth

Dan Huebsch of Community Concern for Youth (CCY) started with 17 Verndale students last year and currently has six. He closed out 13 youth for offenses such as tobacco, speeding tickets, and truancy which are petty misdemeanors. About 90 percent of the students enrolled completed the program. Huebsch works with students K-12, with the majority of his cases coming from 5th-10th grades.

Verndale students had 72 hours of community service and 42 volunteer hours—such as working in the community garden....
