Verndale School Board: Graduation is on the horizon, plans are approved

The Verndale School Board held its regular meeting on May 3.

Administrative Reports

Dean of Students/Activities Director Greg Johnson reported postseason tournaments are scheduled to begin June 1.

Softball will move from section 5A to 6A and baseball will move from 6AA to 5A for the next two years. There is not a schedule for football yet.

Johnson will be attending training and plans to update the activities on the school’s website to include more sports information. Students can also register for sports online. They can track the student’s career and communication with parents will be better.

Principal Katie Bolland discussed activity day on May 19. The Class of 2021 luncheon will be held at the Pirate’s Den on May 20. The last day of school is May 28, May 21 for the seniors. Senior awards night and baccalaureate will be May 26 and graduation is set for May 28.

The students of character and educators of excellence recognitions were held virtually. The blood drive held on April 27 yielded 55 units of blood donated. The senior class trip was held on May 1.

Teacher appreciation week was celebrated. The PTA planned meals including doughnuts and hot wings.

Bolland explained they still have teacher openings that need to be filled for high school English, elementary special education, middle school special education and a part-time Spanish teacher. . .
