Wadena County Commissioners: 4-H building renovation gains momentum
by Trinity Gruenberg
The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Tuesday, August 20.
4-H Building Renovation
The Wadena County Commissioners approved architectural services for the 4-H building with Widseth at $18,500. Commissioner Jon Kangas was opposed. A separate building fund account will be set up for this project with $100,000 from the county building fund. County Administrator CJ Holl will be the project manager and approve all bills. This will help get the plan completed and sent to the Department of Labor.Ā
The bathrooms, flooring, and kitchen will be redone, and funds will be brought in from the Friends of Wadena County, which has raised $165,000 so far.
Commissioner Bill Stearns added that Widseth did most of the work on the fairgrounds buildings.
It is for public use so the Department of Labor and Industry has to follow its guidelines, and engineers have to double-check. This is a professional services agreement with Widseth, and they will engage outside engineers for HVAC, for example.
Kangas said they approved the funds for the bathrooms and he believes they didnāt approve the architectural services. They should use funds from the donations for this.
Stearns said they could clarify the use of the $100,000 for architecture.
Commissioner Murlyn Kreklau said his goal is for the bathroom and kitchen to be done, and when the money is gone, theyāre done....
