Wadena County Commissioners: Initiative Foundation has funded many projects

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on October 4.

ADU Ordinance

The previous Accessory Dwelling Unit ordinance was sent back to the planning commission to add stipulations for an attached garage.

Deana Malone, planning and zoning, explained the maximum 375 square feet for the attached garage, essentially allows for one vehicle and storage.

Board Chair Jon Kangas explained that it doesn’t make sense to him to allow an attached one car garage, when a larger one could be built separately. He was disappointed on the restrictions for property owners. He supports the ADUs otherwise.

Commissioner Murlyn Kreklau said this was a step in the right direction. And they need to review their zoning laws as these were made to preserve forest and ag lands. They could study the ordinances as there are other items they could allow in a homestead.

The ordinance was approved, with Kangas opposed. . .
