60th Anniversary Tour: Todd County Soil and Water Conservation District

On June 18, a fully loaded bus toured nine locations within the Long Prairie Watershed in Todd County as a Celebration of Partnership Tours between Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), Natural Resource Conservation Services (NRCS) and Little Falls DNR.

All the stops were real time projects, some in the early stages of existence; some that have been in existence for many years, and some at the end of their lives. The goal was to show the reality of what conservation looks like on the ground.

Stop One was a residue and tillage management project on the Cebulla Farm in Hartford Township which resulted in no till planting of corn and soybeans on 208.5 acres to reduce soil erosion.

Stop Two was a manure pit closer on the Thielen Farm in Ward Township that took place after seepage was found in 1998. Through cost share resources made available through watershed based implementation funds (BWSR), the Thielen’s contracted through Todd SWCD to permanently close the pit....
