The board discussed a proposal for Town Square Media to build and host a Wadena County opioid prevention website for $4,800 for one year, funded through opioid settlement dollars. County Administrator Colleen Winter said it could provide a one-stop source for local treatment and prevention resources and offer general usage statistics to help guide outreach.
IT Director Neil Hutson shared his main concerns were website security and vendor risk, the possibility that visitor data could be subject to public data requests, and the county’s limited staff capacity to oversee and maintain the site. Hutson said he could not support the proposal.
Commissioners also questioned whether residents would find the site and whether the information was worth the cost.
An alternative discussed was building a page through Civics Plus, estimated at $4,500 to set up, $938 annually, and $40 per page.
