A Matter of Perspective

Sometimes we wonder how people go from being a “normal” person to being extraordinary.
Sometimes we actually get to see it happen.
Such is the case with Carter White, a senior at the Verndale School.
Carter, an overall well-rounded and outstanding athlete, has really shown his chops in the area of golf.
In fact, Carter is currently ranked #2 in the State regardless of class.
We have watched Carter—who golfs for the Staples-Motley team—rise from a fledgling golfer to reaching ranks and showing poise and confidence that many athletes never attain.
Carter dedicates countless hours a week toward perfecting his skills both on and off the golf course. He is nearly always thinking about golf and how he can improve his game.
When he isn’t on the course, he is thinking about how he can better hit the ball. How he can leverage his skills and how to take on competition with wit and humility seasoned with just the right amount of “I’ve got this.”
I had the honor of interviewing Carter a couple of years ago and have been able to watch him rise above obstacles—both mental and physical—which can throw anyone’s game off. He takes on those self-development ideals and puts them into practice, making him a force to contend with.
Carter was just named—on April 28—to the Mr. Minnesota Golf Watchlist. He is one of 15 golfers named to the list.
The watchlist helps the committee in selecting eight female and eight male finalists based on their performance throughout the 2025 high school season.
From the group, one female and one male athlete will be honored with the prestigious titles of Ms. Minnesota Golf and Mr. Minnesota Golf.
If you haven’t been watching this young man excel, you should. He is not only an outstanding athlete, but also a good person.
