On Sunday, August 24, 2025, Dominic Lindquist’s life changed in a matter of seconds while he was helping with routine farm repairs at his in-laws’ shop in Barnsville. He is originally from Browerville and graduated from Bertha-Hewitt School.
Dominic and his brother-in-law Micah were replacing a bearing on the end of an auger. The bearing needed to be cut to remove it, but even after cutting, it remained stuck.
As required, Dominic struck the bearing with a hammer and chisel. When he hit it, a piece of metal broke off and flew directly into his left eye.
Just moments before the accident, Dominic had been working alongside family, focused on getting the repair done. At first, he thought he had closed his eye in time and that the metal had bounced off. But when he opened his eye, he couldn’t see. Fluid ran down his cheek, and although the injury was severe, the pain wasn’t what he expected.
“I didn’t panic,” Dominic recalled. “I give credit to God that I was at peace, even though I didn’t have any vision.”
He kept his eyes shut because when they were open, he could see the metal protruding from his eye.
Micah, his wife’s younger brother, immediately drove him back to the house. From there, Dominic’s mother-in-law rushed him to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
Initially, doctors didn’t realize how large the piece of metal was. An ER doctor thought it could be removed with a tweezers, but once the true size became clear, a specialist was called...
