Bears Season Comes to an End after Falling to Pirates in Five Sets

The Bertha-Hewitt volleyball team began Section 5A tournament action as the 4 seed at home last week against the 5th seeded Verndale Pirates.
Bears Fall to Pirates in 5 Sets
The Bears had an exciting matchup against the Verndale Pirates to start the tournament.The two teams were evenly matched the last time they went head to head, with the Bears coming out victorious in 5 sets. The match this time was no different.
Both teams played hard, making great defensive plays and attacking aggressively. The first set was a close match, but the Pirates were able to gain the lead and keep it late in the first set for the 25-19 victory. The Bears didn’t let the early loss get them down and came back fighting, taking the second set by the same score, 25-19, to even the playing field.
The third set was even closer than the first two, with each team scoring back and forth, keeping the scores within a few points of each other. Despite the Bears’ efforts, however, the Pirates were able to hang on to take the third set 25-21...
