Bears Shine at Home as Miller Sets Course Record, Rach Earns First Varsity Win

by Coach Kenny Miller
A soggy course couldn’t slow the Bertha-Hewitt Bears during their only home meet of the season Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Double Eagle Golf Course. Despite soft ground and standing water following a wet morning, the Bears delivered two varsity victories, a new course record and several personal-best performances.
Freshman Nolan Rach earned his first varsity victory in an exciting finish with teammate and fellow freshman Vance Lockwood. Rach crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 16:47.1, just 2.2 seconds ahead of Lockwood, who also recorded a personal best at 16:49.3. Their one-two finish gave the Bears plenty to celebrate and made the home meet especially memorable for Rach.
In the girls varsity race, senior Kendra Miller strengthened her case as the runner to beat in the Park Region Conference, winning in a course-record time of 18:53.0. Her performance lowered the previous mark of 18:54.7, set by Anjalie Aho of UNC in 2024, by 1.7 seconds. Setting that record despite the wet footing made the accomplishment even more impressive...
