Bears String Together Three Volleyball Victories

Bears edge Verndale in five-set volleyball match
The Bertha-Hewitt Bears defeated the Verndale Pirates 3-2 on Thursday, September 17, in a competitive five-set volleyball match.
Bertha-Hewitt received a strong offensive performance from Kendal Beyatt, who led the Bears with 19 kills on 47 attacks for a .277 hitting percentage. Jasmine Williams added eight kills, while Ellyana Braaten and Laila Schwantz each recorded six kills.
Josalyn Hauer directed the Bears’ offense with 32 assists on 132 sets. Braaten added four assists, while Williams, Danika Wilhelmi and Lillian Cardinal each contributed one assist.
The Bears were especially effective from the service line. Mariana Hansel led the team with six aces, going 13-for-13 on her serves. Hauer added two aces, Braaten had two and Williams had three. Wilhelmi was also perfect on 13 serves.
Defensively, Wilhelmi led the Bears with 22 digs, followed by Williams with 19. Skylee Hauer recorded 17 digs, Hauer had 16 and Braaten added 15. Hansel finished with 12 digs.
At the net, Braaten and Cardinal each recorded three block assists, while Beyatt and Schwantz each had one block assist.
