Cardinal is MADD Speaker of the Year

by Trinity Gruenberg

“...Turning his pain into purpose and leaving a lasting impact...” the speaker said at the MADD award ceremony held on October 19 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center as she announced that Matt Cardinal of Staples was awarded Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Speaker of the Year.

“It was surprising. It was nice to get some recognition. I just volunteer,” said Cardinal.

He travels the state with MADD and shares the story of his tragic loss with students and offenders in hopes it will prevent another loss.

Cardinal, his wife Lindsay, 35, and their three young children, Wyatt, Lilly and Evelyn, resided in Foreston. Cardinal was a member of the National Guard, worked as a mechanic at Camp Ripley and was a volunteer fireman for the Foreston Fire Department for four years. Lindsey was for the most part a stay-at-home mom.

January 31, 2017, began as a typical day. Lindsey was in Foley with two of the kids picking up their youngest from daycare. . .
