Charges against Umland are dismissed

According to court documents, the charges against Jeremy Umland of Verndale have been dismissed.
On December 4, 2023, Chief Athmann initiated an investigation into a financial theft report involving the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves organization.
The report was initiated by Cynthia Schumacher, the new treasurer, who noticed incomplete financial records after taking over from former treasurer Jeremy Matthew Umland.
Schumacher discovered that Umland had written three unauthorized checks totaling $14,414.72 and made 12 unexplained cash withdrawals totaling $24,846.49 between April 2022 and October 2023. Additionally, $1,178.15 in interest from a closed account was missing. The total unauthorized amount taken was $40,439.30
Umland was charged with two felony counts of Theft by Swindle over $35,000.
On July 3, the State of Minnesota, through Assistant Wadena County Attorney Adam J. Licari, dismissed the complaint without prejudice.
