Planting the two blue spruce trees by the Clarissa Manor, on each end of the Jessie Von Brethorst memorial, in 1972 were Clarissa Lady Bugs: Loretta Johnson, Rose Petersen, Laura Benson, Ardelle Feda, Pearl Johnson and Rosalia Wiltermuth.

The Clarissa Lady Bugs Garden Club, the very first garden club established in Clarissa, has disbanded after 59 years.

Their final project is cleaning up the Clarissa Senior Center landscape by replacing the gravel and making it low maintenance.

Member Kelly Bican explained they waited until spring to see how the group felt and if they would continue to meet or not. They all agreed it was time to call it quits.

“We looked back at what the garden club was 50 years ago, that it was a beautification of Clarissa,” said Bican.

After much discussion and knowing many of their members are affiliated with the senior center, they decided to use their remaining funds for a project at the senior center.

On Monday, May 22, they began removing the gravel at the center and will replace it. . .
