The Verndale City Council held their regular meeting on Monday, July 14. Mayor Tara Erckbrack was absent.

Sidewalk Project Update

Ryan Odden with Moore Engineering provided an update on the Safe Routes to School sidewalk project. He reported that the project was nearly complete, with only a few punch list items remaining. The concrete work and driveways looked good, and the seeding was in progress, though some areas were taking better than others.

John Rousslang raised a concern about flooding on a new sidewalk between Second and Third Street on Thompson Street. Odden acknowledged the issue and noted they would investigate and address it. He explained that they still need to conduct a final walk-around to ensure 70% grass germination and check for any minor issues like uneven surfaces.

Odden praised the contractor for their good communication with residents during the project. He mentioned that despite affecting many people, the project went relatively smooth. He anticipated two more partial payments to the contractor—one to square up the quantities and another to address the punch list items.
