For nearly five years, K-9 Ranger was Deputy Brittney Hendricks’ partner. Whether searching for narcotics, tracking suspects, or assisting SWAT teams on dangerous calls, the German Shepherd rarely left her side. Even off duty, he was much the same.
“As much as he’s a tool, he’s still my baby,” Hendricks said with a smile. “He’s my stinking breath boy.”
Hendricks and Ranger officially retired on June 30 after more than 120 deployments, six arrests without the use of force, two apprehensions involving bites, and numerous narcotics finds during traffic stops and search warrants.
His largest drug seizure resulted in the recovery of about half a pound of methamphetamine and half a pound of fentanyl.
“It just seemed like good timing,” she said. “Law enforcement is a lot, and with starting a family, I had already been thinking about it. Ranger retiring was kind of the final push..."
