The Verndale City Council held their regular meeting on Monday, March 9.
Final Payment Approved For Sidewalk Project
The recommended final payout to Ideal Construction is $48,102.19, representing the remaining amount due under the project, after negotiations with Moore Engineering.
Council Member Jim Runyan repeatedly questioned whether the city should instead receive a total of $52,000 from Moore (combining an earlier discussed $30,000 offer plus $22,000 toward Ideal’s extra costs), arguing that the city was effectively absorbing about a $30,000 overrun. Other members and attendees noted that while the project exceeded its not‑to‑exceed amount, the city had already reached a settlement with Moore and pursuing anything additional would likely have required costly and uncertain litigation.
In the end, the council agreed to approve the pay estimate for $48,102.19 to Ideal, but directed that the check would not be sent until the corresponding settlement payment from Moore Engineering is received by the city...
