The Verndale School Board held their regular meeting on Monday, October 6.
Administrative Reports
Principal Katie Bolland reported on recent and upcoming activities. She highlighted staff and student achievements, listed all field trips for the current and upcoming months, and noted that the first LETRS professional development session took place for participating staff, while others received instructional practice demonstrations. Bi-weekly grade-level data meetings are underway in the elementary school. Upcoming events include a guest speaker for grades 7–12. Bolland also mentioned that her classroom observations for the year have begun, and the district has started its school improvement and literacy initiatives, including participation in the Read Act Community of Practice. She concluded by noting a successful start to homecoming week.
Superintendent Jeannie Mayer began by apologizing for a recent flag oversight at the football field, explaining that the flag was not at half-staff due to a substitute janitor, but the issue was corrected by halftime. She announced that registration for the MSBA conference in January is opening soon and encouraged board members to let her know if they wish to attend so she can secure rooms. Mayer provided an enrollment update, noting a recent decrease due to a 15-day drop, some students switching to homeschool, and several transfers in and out, resulting in a very fluid enrollment situation...
