Soil and Water Board of Supervisors Applauded for their Work

At the regular Todd County Commissioner meeting held on February 17, the Todd County Commissioners and Todd Soil and Water (SWCD) Board of Supervisors held their annual joint meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss SWCD’s accomplishments for the past year and the work plans for the coming year.
District Manager Deja Anton shared a PowerPoint of information on the activities of the SWCD. As part of the comprehensive planning, research found there are seventeen different languages being used in the county, there are five different Amish communities (second largest in the state), residents’ needs vary from farming to lake concerns, there are 25,995 residents, median age is 44, and the county has a growth trend of 2.7%.
Over the past year the SWCD has focused on well water testing promotion, feedlot compliance with four locations left to bring into compliance with land owners, riparian project with a grant to apply alum treatment for lake clarity to Big Swan, erecting fencing to remove cattle from water resources and an additional fifty-two other projects.
The total full value of the projects in 2025 was $1,591,034 with a cost share through grants of $717,751.55. The total benefit to Todd County’s economy and business equals $2,879,772.
In 2026, they will continue to focus on water quality, riparian projects, feedlot compliance, and other projects.
Adam Ossefoort shared letters from partners with positive feedback on the work of the SWCD. Darren Mayers, Board of Soil & Water Resources, applauded the S&W board and staff members on their focus of comprehensive planning, thinking outside the box on projects, willingness to use grants, care for constituents, and tracking of finances showing fiscal responsibility.
