25 Years Ago

April 23, 1997

The Eagle Valley FFA Dairy Team placed first in the regional competition in Brainerd. There were 10 teams and 49 contestants competing. Kip Greenwaldt placed first in individual, Danny Beach placed fifth, Billy Zeidler placed 12th, and Isaiah Godding placed fourth. Terry Runge placed second. In the competition, they had to judge dairy cows and calves, do pedigree selection, sire selection, linear evaluation, and give oral reasons.

The students and staff at Eagle Valley Elementary are doing their part to help the flood victims in the state by donating their pop and juice cans and bottles this week of April 20-25 The effort is voluntary. The money will be given to the Minnesota Red Cross. Pictured are sixth grad students Crystal Hess and Emily Hudala.


50 Years Ago

April 20, 1972

Alan Behrends, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Behrends, was named as one of the ten finalists in the Rural Electric Youth Tour Contest sponsored by Todd Wadena Electric Cooperative announced this week by Thorval Johnson, member services director.

The Independent was informed this week that Ken Pesta and Bob Feuling, owners and operators of Clarissa Surge, purchased the Clarissa Creamery building and are planning to move their Surge equipment to that location.
