The Clarissa Ballroom was filled with Kraft producers on Thursday, February 22. The meeting was about the fact that Land O’ Lakes (LOL) and Dairy Farmers of America had bought the Melrose Kraft Cheese Plant, the plant which many of the dairy farmers had sent their milk to for possessing for many years. Why did Kraft sell? Darin Thiesse, spokesman, explained that there is a larger milk market in the west. Kraft can purchase the same quality and technology in products for less in other U.S. regions. Roy Cherry, LOL spokesman, stated LOL has made a commitment to the Upper Midwest and to Minnesota and previous contracts will be honored.
