25 Years Ago

August 29, 2001

An appreciation tea for Home Health nurses and aides in our area was held on August 22 at the Browerville Cafe. Home Health caregivers were given “kits for clients” in Eagle Bend, Clarissa and Browerville throughout the Friendship Branch 8617, Friends in Deed Project, sponsored by Lutheran Brotherhood. Pictured were: Ethel Bleninger, Shelia Roth, Linda Peterson, Marion Bergs, Beryl Irish, Loretta Johnson and Denise Blaske. Nancy Jares was not pictured.

Pictured are the first place winners at the Pet Show at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa: Mitchell Mahr with his kitten, Julia May with her puppy and Ashely Perish with her Holstein calf. The residents enjoyed petting, feeding and just looking at the animals. There were 32 entries for the pet show.

50 Years Ago

September 2, 1976

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Holmquist are going to hold an open house at the Clarissa Hardware this Friday, September 3, with free coffee, milk and homemade doughnuts being served from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. that day.

Ewald Rosenow brought into the Independent Office last Monday one of the strangest tomatoes we’ve ever seen! The huge tomato looked like it couldn’t decided which direction to grow. Its cluster of two big tomatoes and three smaller ones were all on one stem. It was nearly six inches high and the top had little nodules growing out in every which direction.
