25 Years Ago

September 18, 1996

The Lutheran Brotherhood Friendship Branch #8617 presented a check for $500 to the Clarissa Centennial Committee. The Lutheran Brotherhood Branch along with the Centennial Committee produced the play “Get Up and Go”. Through ticket sales, the Lutheran Brotherhood Challenge Fund was able to match funds dollar for dollar in the amount of $500. Pictured were Barb Pieper, Lutheran Brotherhood; Vonda Hedlund, Centennial Committee; Marion Bergs, Lutheran Brotherhood; Lutheran Brotherhood Branch President Steve Graff, Centennial Committee Chairman Margi Taggart, and Elmer Fragodt, Lutheran Brotherhood service officer.

The Eagle Valley Rebels won for the second week in a row, raising their record 2-1, as they traveled to Sebeka and defeated the Trojans 34-14. Junior Billy Ziedler scored two first-quarter touchdowns to give the Rebels the early momentum. It took the Rebels three plays to score on their opening drive. Zeidler read the Trojan defender, faked to Dickinson, and raced outside, down the sidelines for 67 yards. Todd Holmquist kicked the extra point.


50 Years Ago

September 16, 1971

Allen Holmquist of the Hustlin’ Rustics 4-H Club of Clarissa was selected during the 1971 Minnesota State Fair to attend the National 4-H Dairy Conference at Madison, Wisconsin. Allen won the award on the basis of his long-time 4-H dairy career and knowledge of the dairy industry.

The Clarissa Buccaneers, led by Joel Hokanson with six touchdowns, rolled to an easy 47-0 victory over Belgrade last Friday evening on the home field.
