The Verndale City Council held their regular meeting on Monday, April 13.
Cannabis Licensing
The city council discussed how to manage low-potency hemp and cannabis edibles now that local licensing is required following state approval.
One local business has already received a license from the Office of Cannabis Management to sell low-potency edibles, prompting the need for the city to establish its own licensing process.
Council members decided to create a straightforward registration form that includes tax and zoning rules that will determine where cannabis businesses can operate, such as on highways or Main Street, and to potentially keep them away from schools, churches, and residential areas.
City staff will look for examples and guidance from other cities and the county. A special committee, including Council Members Jim Runyan and Brad Cottrell, and Public Works Supervisor Matt Uselman, will work on recommendations for zoning and licensing conditions. These recommendations will be brought to the council in May...
