When did long weekends transition from being all about fun and parties to becoming an opportunity to tackle house projects? That seems to be the case for me anyway. While I did spend the Fourth of July with my boyfriend, the rest of the weekend was dedicated to cleaning and fixing things around the house.

It didn’t even occur to me that I could have had a bonfire on Saturday night, especially since it wasn’t raining. Oh well, at least I got to see some nice fireworks from my office window.

I fixed the latch on the kennel door, which I close during bad weather to keep the cats inside. I also added some new weather stripping and replaced the actual flap on it. The old one was always a few inches short and was just filled in with duct tape—not exactly a great solution for keeping bugs and the elements out! I got a new, thin piece of plexiglass, and my awesome neighbor helped me cut it to size. It was hilarious watching the cats figure out the new door. I had to shove a few of them into the kennel just to show them how light the door was and that they could move it easily. It didn’t take long for them to catch on.

I ran out of wallpaper before I could finish my desk. The order was supposed to arrive on Thursday, but it got pushed to Monday. Sigh. Hopefully this week I can complete my desk and put everything back together. For now, the dining room table is still my workshop.

The purge in my office continues, although some stuff is still scattered all over the place that needs to go back on the desk. I can’t wait to have my office back to normal! I really struggle to work in clutter.

Overall, I’m looking forward to the day when everything is back in order. A clean, organized workspace will make a huge difference in my productivity and peace of mind. Until then, I’ll just keep plugging away at the projects and hope for a more relaxing long weekend next time!
