People’s abuse of AI needs to stop. I can’t even doom-scroll in peace without encountering some terrible AI-generated video trying to depict a tsunami or another horrific disaster. Why would anyone create fake disaster videos just for likes and views? Some people are truly demented. The number of individuals who are tricked by these videos is astonishing; it seems that many will believe anything they see on the internet these days.
Some of the AI-generated images are bad, especially those of over-the-top houses and extravagant bedrooms that flood my feed. You know those aren’t real; some of these products do not exist. But they look so darn real that I can’t blame people for being fooled.
And then there’s the classic switcheroo where people post pictures and videos from past disasters, claiming they are current events. Why do they insist on doing this?
There are some good videos out there; some are hilarious, like “Bigfoot’s Vlog.” That’s also just a current trend. I wonder what will come next.
There are advantages and disadvantages to AI. I do use some AI for recording interviews and proofreading, but it makes me wonder how much of my job could be affected. I will always need to take pictures, but how long before our stock photos are AI-generated, or the same applies to graphic designs?
Theoretically, AI could replace most of my job, which worries me. It also is very concerning that AI can learn from my input to provide information to someone else. This has been a major issue, especially with Adobe products; they even posted a disclaimer stating they are not using our work to train their AI bots. So how are they “training” their bots?
I enjoy AI as a tool to assist with my job, but I think we all share the same concern that these AIs could become like Skynet. It’s only a matter of time before more legislation is imposed to control AI and prevent its use for nefarious purposes.
In the end, I hope we can find a balance where we can appreciate the benefits of AI while also safeguarding our jobs, our creativity, and the truth.
As we navigate this rapidly changing landscape, it’s crucial that we advocate for ethical technology use and hold companies accountable for their practices.
Only by being vigilant can we ensure that AI serves us rather than harms us.
