To the Editor:
I’m going to speak on the subject of AI (Artificial Intelligence).
There are a few vital points that one should remember about AI or any other computer program.
1. AI is artificial; it’s not always intelligent and remember intelligence is defined as “the capacity to acquire and apply knowledge”. Thus, by definition, serial killers—and even Satan—are technically quite intelligent. Conclusion: Intelligence is not necessarily a good thing...having the wealth of the world’s intelligence at everyone’s fingertips can actually be dangerous.
2. Remember this, and I happen to know that many people forget this very fast: Robots, regardless of their capabilities are still just a large amount of transistors and diodes printed atop each other. Stop humanizing computers! Many people have come to put more faith and stock in AI than in God! Conclusion: People have not learned much over the years; in ancient Egypt they used to worship a man-made rock with a bird’s head on it. Us modern people apparently are not much smarter; many modern day people all but worship AI simply because it can always come up with an answer that sounds intelligent, but it doesn’t mean it’s always right or good.
My point to this letter is:
1. AI is artificial but not always intelligent; stop treating it like a false God just because it claims to know more than you!
2. AI can be a very good thing, but can also be used for much evil which it is very often used for.
3. Stop using AI just because you can; the more often you use AI, the more your brain will rot. If your argument is that people can’t be trusted, then that is your fault because you are not trustworthy. If you become a more trustworthy person, other people will admire you for it and they will also want to become more trustworthy.
4. Use your brain whenever you can; remember that you survived without AI before. Put your faith in God and you’ll have all that you need.
Sincerely,
Pascal Blase Bulcher
