Letter to the Editor
To the Editor: The week of April 19–25 marks the 45th anniversary of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW). It is an important time to recognize crime victims and survivors, to honor their experiences, and to make sure their voices are heard. When survivors speak, we all have an opportunity to listen, learn, and do better. This year’s theme, CommUNITY, highlights the strength that comes from people coming together to support victims. Survivors are supported every day

To the Editor: April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month This month and throughout the year, Todd County Health and Human Services encourage all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Todd County a healthy place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help prevent child abuse and neglect by making meaningful connections with children, youth and families in

To the Editor: I’m going to speak about our growing population. Is it just me or is our world’s population growing? I’ll tell you, it isn’t just me, our population is growing by leaps and bounds, in places and in ways our ancestors probably would have never believed. And it’s a real problem; it is already affecting our world in many negative ways. If you have any mental capacity then by now you have probably guessed that I am speaking about individuals growing larger and

To the Editor: “Resurrection Power” (Why Jesus Died) I saw a cartoon the other day, a good one. It was a picture of some monkeys in a cage looking out through the bars at some people who had come to look at them. The human beings were on one end of the cage, and the monkeys were on the other end. One of the older monkeys turned to another monkey and said, “I wonder if we really are descended from them?” And there were looks of distress on the faces of all the monkeys!

To the Editor: On Saturday, March 28, Resist! Long Prairie will once again gather at the stoplights at the intersection of Highway 71 and County 38 from 2-3 p.m. to protest and demand a halt to Trump’s war and mushrooming evil authoritarianism. Our protest will be in conjunction with the national No Kings mobilization. To the Editor: The longer I have been on the county board, the more I believe there is, at the very least, a need to update our 1970 zoning laws, which have changed very little since then. It’s about a lot more than just increasing our tax capacity. Here are some other reasons why this is important: 1. Increased tax capacity increases our ability to keep our tax rates down, to deal with ever increasing mandates coming out of St. Paul. We currently have the eighth highest ta

To the Editor: Our U.S. Representative to the United States Congress is a Republican, right? Let’s imagine she is, for the sake of argument. I voted for Republican Richard Nixon and my Dad thought Barry Goldwater and Dwight Eisenhower were heroes. We voted for these guys, in part, because they were fiscal conservative. They thought the U.S. government should limit its spending while still serving Americans. But our U.S. Representative recently bragged up her support for th

To the Editor: February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a time to address an issue that affects far too many young people. Research shows that one in three teens in the U.S. will experience some form of dating abuse—whether emotional, verbal, physical or digital—before adulthood. One of the most powerful ways to prevent dating violence is by teaching healthy relationship skills: • Boundaries. Boundaries are personal limits that protect emotional and physical well

Letter to the Editor
To the Editor: Many years ago, in Junior High School civics class, the teacher posed a question that has lingered in my mind ever since: he asked, “Is the United States a land governed by laws or is it a land governed by men?” The United States of America was forged in a bitter revolution from the tyranny of King George and Great Britain. Our founding document, the 1776 Declaration of Independence, set forth an aspirational guiding philosophy for the new nation: a nation go
