Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL 7th District) and his Senior Economic Developer Toni Merdan toured Diamond Tool and Engineering on Tuesday, January 25. Peterson announced that USDA Rural Development Economic Development Load Program will provide funding to East Otter Tail Telephone to furnish a $100,000 interest free loan to assist Diamond Tool and Engineering Company in Bertha for the expansion of their molding manufacturing business.

The Bears continued to play solid defense allowing 18 less shots then they took in the game. The offense stayed in control and slowed the game down midway through the fourth quarter. With a 75-70 win over the Tigers, the Bears improved their record to 7-7 overall and 5-1 in the PRC conference.

February 3, 1949
The Bertha Bombers made their last bid for the top slot of the Central Minnesota Basketball League when they played Parkers Prairie in the local gym. The winner of this battle gets top seeding in the league play-offs to be held in Wadena. Bertha is in first place in the south division. Verndale leads the north division.

The members of the American Legion and Auxiliary, along with wives and husbands, enjoyed a whist party at the schoolhouse. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pfeffer carried off the high prizes. Mrs. William Englemann and Earl Leibold earned the low scores. Following the card playing, a nice lunch was served.
