The Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale high school track team will have two students participating at the state meet this week. They did well with 10 athletes partaking in the Section 6A meet at Concordia on Saturday. BHV will be represented at state by Charlene Butler in the 100 and 200m dash and long jump, and by Erica Dague in the 400m dash.

Miss Tricia Stokes, daughter of Jean and Larry Stokes of Hewitt, has been selected as a finalist for Minnesota’s fifteenth annual Homecoming Queen Contest to be held June 10-11 at the Holiday Inn in Bloomington. She reigns as the Bertha-Hewitt High School homecoming queen.

Lt. Sylvester Dittbenner, brother of Mrs. L.M. Bluhm, in a recent communication, expected to be returned to the United States shortly after having been confined in a German Prison Camp since last July 29 when his plane was shot down in a bombing raid over Germany.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Grams were happy this week to receive a telegram from their son, Lt. Elmer Gram, stating that he had landed in New Jersey, following nineteen months of imprisonment in Germany after being shot down during a mission over northern Italy on October 1, 1943. He was released from Stalag VILA near Mooseberg, Germany, when American forces took over that area on April 28.
