June Kapaun of Alexandria, a seventh grade student at Discovery School, got to do something over the summer she’d never done before...fish. The experience was rewarding for more than just the three-pound Northern Pike she pulled in that day. She also spent some quality time with her mentor, Diane Henry, a physician’s assistant at the Bertha Medical Clinic. The mentor program is offered through the school district and adult mentors are paired with youth in grades 5-9.

Al Siegle is one of four outstanding graduates of Concordia College being honored at the Concordia Homecoming this fall. Siegle is remembered as a very popular and successful teacher and coach at the Bertha-Hewitt High School from 1958-1964. Al and his wife Faye were very active in the community and in their church while in Bertha. He served as chairman of an active Bertha Commercial Club.
50 Years Ago
October 13, 1949
This fall marks the 40th anniversary of the Bertha Hardware and Furniture Co. Alvin L. Engelmann, manager, announced there will be special events to celebrate the occasion.

An announcement was made this week that Lyle Bolles, licensed master electrician, will headquarter at the Bertha Gambles Store in serving this community’s electrical repair needs.
