Orrin’s Hardware building in Bertha is getting a new face-lift. Pete Wallner of Bertha purchased the building and is planning to combine Pete’s Lumber and the new hardware portion together. At the present time they are remodeling the inside and the outside of the entire building. The business will be referred to as Pete’s Lumber and Hardware.

Valley City State University Head Football Coach Dennis McCullough would like to announce the signing of Neil Ostlund and Nathan Payne. Ostlund, 5’11”, 160 lbs., quarterback, Bertha-Hewitt High School, is the son of Doug Joan Ostlund. He’s been an all conference performer for Bertha-Hewitt and Coach Jim Sutherland. He lettered in baseball, basketball and band. Payne, 6’3”, 205 lbs., wide receiver, Bertha-Hewitt School, is the son of Brian Payne and Roxanne Mikkelson. He was a four year letter winner for Coach Sutherland, and all-conference and all-section in 1999 and two year all-conference in basketball. He also lettered in track and choir.

Two committees met with the Bertha Village Council. One committee represented the Bertha Volunteer Fire Department and sought the council’s aid in purchasing rural fire fighting equipment. The other committee was from the American Legion Post asking about the possibility of building a community hall.

Four junior leaders of Bertha Boy Scout Troop 59 are taking part in a leadership training course in Wadena. They are Allen Cornell, Stanley McIntire, Gerald and Glen Zaske.
