Bertha RSVP volunteers and supervisors were recognized at a mini-recognition program that was held at the Bertha Senior Citizens Center on April 7. Pictured: Bernice Rach, Selma Heuer, Char Westad, Bertha Westergren, Phyllis Sellnow, Dora Schlichting, Gladys Grewe, Janice Rae, Ernie Rach, Maybelle Ganske, Leona Sudbeck, Mary Ward, Erna Rausch, Marth Nokes, Clara Buthmann, Helen Dorsett, Dort Gere, Louise Wagner and Lavern Haase.

Illustrator Judy Kuusisto visited the Bertha-Hewitt Elementary School on April 11. She told the students how she became an illustrator, and what an illustrator does. She told students about some of the furry characters in the book, “To Sleep With Angels.” Judy then asked Mrs. Desotell to read the story, while she showed the students the illustrations. She drew all the illustrations in the book.

April 20, 1950
Evelyn Iverson was named valedictorian of the 1950 Hewitt graduating class. Ivan Harris was named salutatorian. Mr. Orville Lokken, high school principal, made the announcement.

Bill Fraune, popular owner of the Bertha Cafe, will leave May 3 from Minneapolis to fly to his native Germany. He plans to spend five or six weeks visiting his aging mother, two brothers and other relatives. The trip across won’t consume much in flying time from Minneapolis to Frankfort, Germany, just a mere 18 hours.
