25 Years Ago

May 24, 2000

The construction report was given by Mark Hoffman of E and V Construction. Hoffman told the board that they are ahead of schedule. Next week they will be setting the tanks for the sprinkler system. Pete Wallner made a motion to rebid the drywall and flooring categories of the building project. Lynn Hagen seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. The bids for the interior door project have been rejected until February 2001.

A reception was held Wednesday, May 17, in the media center at the Bertha-Hewitt School honoring the T.O.Y. and O.L.E.’s and two retirees. Sharon Howe presented retiree plaques to Myra Peterson and Deloris Svmalla.


75 Years Ago

May 25, 1950

Thirteen Hewitt High School seniors will take part in graduation exercises at the community hall. On Sunday, the Baccalaureate service will be held with Rev. Delmont Gordy of the Evangelical United Brethren Church delivering the sermon. Charles Kennedy, well known attorney, will give the commencement address. Evelyn Iverson is Valedictorian and Ivan Harris is the Salutatorian.

Bertha people will join with millions of Americans in wearing bright red poppies on Saturday to honor the memory of Americans who died in the two World Wars. Women of the Auxiliary will be on the streets early in the morning with baskets of the memorial flowers to pin on coats of passers-by.
