Judy Zimmerman has owned and operated the House of Hair Design in Bertha for 18 years, but on Saturday, July 29, she will hang up her shears. Doug, Judy’s husband, is going into ministry and is finishing his schooling out of state. Julie (Wegleitner) VanHale is originally from Bertha and moved back last week. She had been living and working in St. Cloud. She is the new owner of the House of Hair Design.

Jill Samuelson, 1997 Miss Wadena and 2000 Miss Fargo, sang seven songs for the entertainment at the Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, in Fergus Falls on July 21. Jill is a Bertha-Hewitt graduate.

August 3, 1950
The $5 in merchandise certificates was unclaimed Saturday evening for the second time in the drawing held by Bertha merchants and it will be added to the third prize next Saturday. James Halladay was the first place winner of $15 last Saturday, Floyd Peterson won the second prize of $8 in merchandise certificates and Galen Bottemiller was the $2 winner. Mrs. Marten Dornebush was the person not present for the third prize.

Clare Kapphahn, the only boy competing, won the pie baking contest at the annual 4-H Club Demonstration Day at Long Prairie. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapphahn and is a member of the High Flyers 4-H Club. For his prize performance Clare will get a trip to compete at the state fair.
