The city of Bertha will have a new community center, according to a decision made by the Bertha city Council at a special meeting held on August 7. Mayor Don Booen went over the bids with the council. The low bid on the demolition of the American Legion building and of the Senior Citizens building was Moench Excavating with a bid of $4986. The low bid for construction of the center was made by Dave Ruby Construction at $192,293. The total cost would be around $225,000.

John Blashack of Bertha has filed with the Secretary of State to run for the Minnesota State House of Representatives. He is the GOP endorsed candidate for District 11B. Blashack, the owner and operator of a small dairy farm for nearly 30 years, has been active in organizations promoting small business and dairy farming.

The sale of the Bertha Motor Co. to Mr. and Mrs. Paul LaFollette of Mitchell, SD has been announced by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Joliffee, owners. The LaFollettes expected to take over on or before September 1.

Prizes for drawings sponsored weekly by Bertha merchants are doubled for Saturday night. The increase is the result of prize winners not being present when their names are called. Last Saturday evening, Mrs. Ernie Fisher was present and received $16 in merchandise certificates for second prize and Frank Klimek was present for fourth prize which was $2. Absent last Saturday evening were Mrs. Clara Shaw for first prize and Gloria Rach for third prize.
