The Hewitt Lions and Lioness held a fundraiser on August 27 to help raise money for new playground equipment for the Hewitt Park. The fundraiser produced $799.11. The Lions and Lioness are working in cooperation with Aid Association for Lutherans #1484 on an $800 matching fund to go toward the purchase of the new equipment. Many businesses have also contributed funds for the project. Additionally, two grants are being applied for. Right now the group is $10,000 short of the $26,000 needed for the new equipment.

The new water and sewer lines were brought into the street next to the new community center site. Work on the lines took place Thursday, August 24. The American Legion building has been worked on. The sign is removed and the building is ready for demolition. The senior center is also ready for demolition which is set to start this week.

August 24, 1950
The Three R’s—Reading, ‘Riting and ‘Rithmetic once more becomes the focal point for children. Two new faculty members will join returning faculty at the Bertha School. The faculty includes: Mrs. Carol Bode, grade 1; Mrs. Alice Rehmann, grade 2; Mrs. John Knee, grade 3; Mrs. Leona Rolfzen, grade 4; Mrs. Evelyn Adams, grade 5; and Mrs. Irene Burnett, grade 6.

The Hewitt School will open Tuesday, September 5. The faculty includes: Orville Lokken, principal, social studies and coach; Miss Anna Mae Heinzel, English and music; Charles Wright, agriculture and commercial; Miss Lucille Manus, 7-8 grades; Mrs. LeRoy Voge, 5-6 grades; Mrs. Evelyn Manus, 3-4 grades; Mrs. Delight Beckman, 1-2 grades; and David Brown, superintendent.
