Moench, who is also doing the demolition of the American Legion building and the Senior Citizen Center in Bertha, was working last week cleaning out the old theatre lot (next to Schultz Drug) for the county. The crew cleaned out old chunks of cement and other debris from the lot and filled the area with gravel and black dirt.

Salonrenew in Bertha (formerly House of Hair Design) has been getting a facelift. Externally, new windows were added. Internally the tanning bed was moved to the back and the front was opened up. With the new windows, more light is also a perk. The floor was recently redone as well.

September 14, 1950
The program for the year was discussed at the first meeting of the Bertha Woman’s Club. Tops will be: “Spanish Americans,” in October; “Cape Cod” in November; “Christmas” in December; “Jews Within Our Gates” in January; “Susan B. Anthony” in February; “The Backwoods People” in March; “Youth” in April; and “Folk Lore” in May. Thirty-one have joined the club. Officers are: Mrs. O.L. Johnson, vice-president; Mrs. Eunice Bluhm, secretary; and Mrs. Clinton Cook, treasurer.

The Bertha-Hewitt Sportsmen Club released 218 16-week old pheasants last week, Donovan Cary, president, reported. The club has release a total of 785 pheasants this summer.
