Mike Schwantes has been the head of maintenance for the city of Hewitt for 22 years. When he started working for the city it was as the city police officer. He served as a police officer while the water system was being installed. He worked as an officer until January 1, 2000 when the city signed a contract with the county. After the water system was put in, Mike became the city maintenance man.

The Bertha-Hewitt Dollars for Scholars chapter is planning its annual radio auction. This is a great opportunity for local businesses and organizations to promote their services and products by donating a gift certificate item to be sold on auction night. The auction benefits all participants—donors, bidders and the Dollars for Scholars organization.

Bertha has finally received its new fire truck. The truck was driven from Minneapolis where it was made by the Flour City Body Company. Bill Cary and Bud Schaefer drove the truck to Bertha. Bud and Buster Cary and Kermit Miller accompanied them to The Cities.
