A short school board meeting culminated in a tour of the new addition is what happened at the Bertha-Hewitt School Board meeting on Tuesday evening. Members of the board heard again from Doug Cederstrand from E and V Construction Managers. He told them the progress being made is good and everything is on or ahead of schedule. All the concrete sidewalks are complete, however, landscaping and parking lot striping will have to wait until spring.

Cliff Filbert, who will take the office of the mayor for the city of Hewitt during the January 2001 meeting of the council, is a familiar face in Hewitt. He and his wife Valerie moved to Hewitt seven years ago. Cliff was on the city council for many years and his wife was the city clerk/treasurer for a time. Cliff enjoys cartooning and doing other art work.

Christmas mail this year was as heavy as that of last year, the heaviest in the history of the local post office, according to Postmaster Mayme Alden.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Haase received word that their son, Elvin, is missing in action in Korea. Elvin is a member of the 35th Infantry Division and was among the first U.S. troops to land in Korea. Elvin is the second G.I. from this area missing in action. Last week, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Jasmer of Bartlett were notified their son, Lawrence, has been missing since November 30.
