March 21, 2001
The parishioners of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bertha and Trinity Lutheran Church in Hewitt have been making quilts for people around the world and locally since 1970. The project began when Helen Hoffman (wife of Pastor Herman Hoffman) and Elsie Erdman encouraged some women of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church to meet weekly in the church basement to sew quilts for the Lutheran World Relief. Soon the women of Trinity Lutheran in Hewitt were making quilts, too. Now the women of both churches meet together and work together on the quilting project which runs from January until Holy Week.
