News from Bertha and Hewitt's Pasts

Several area hunters/dog handlers recently placed in the National Hunting Dog Trials in Stratton, Colorado. The competition took place April 6-8. Steve Aeling from Hewitt and Goldie, a yellow Labrador owned by the American Heritage Hunt Club, placed first in the national competition. Steve also placed seventh with Zelda, a German Short Hair pointer. Maggie, a Labrador Retriever owned by the Aelings, took 10th in the puppy division.

Senior Matt Voeltz received the John Phillip’s Sousa Award during last Thursday’s band concert. Instructor Ken Nelson praised Voeltz for his hard work and willingness to step in and help by trying new things.

75 Years Ago

May 10, 1951

The Hewitt Okizer Camp Fire Girls will meet Monday after school. Newly elected officers are: Lois Kimber, president; Shirley Chase, vice president; Betty Daniels, secretary; Lindy Iverson, treasurer; and program committee members are Mary Ann Froelich, Joanne Brauch and Lois Kimber.

The Women’s Club will meet May 14 at the school at 8 p.m. Hostesses are Mrs. G.C. Domian, Mrs. H.F. Steinkrause and Mrs. Robert Scott, Mrs. Arthur Hilpert and Mrs. Fred Dehnel.
