As members of the Class of 2001 eagerly await their graduation at Wadena-Deer Creek, Superintendent Earl Mathison also chose to “graduate”. He is retiring on June 30 after spending the past 35 years as a teacher, principal and superintendent. Mathison became the principal of the Eagle Bend School in 1971 and remained in that position until 1977. Then he moved up the road about seven miles to become superintendent of the Bertha-Hewitt School District from 1977 to 1993, then to Granite Falls-Clarkfield, and then on to Wadena-Deer Creek.

Madison Aeling, Amanda Kneisl, and Molly Moenkedick were selected to participate in the STEPS Program. STEPS stands for Science, Technology and Engineering Preview Summer camp for girls. It’s a one week introduction to the exciting world of technology and engineering. Campers will participate in a variety of activities that will give them hands-on experience with high-tech equipment and processes. It gives girls the opportunity to learn more about what engineers do, and what types of jobs are available.
