Council Member Jim Walker, City Clerk Marsha Hansen, Council Member Juanita Mitchell, City Maintenance Mike Schwantes and Mayor Cliff Filbert were on hand Saturday during the Hewitt festival for the dedication of the new park equipment. Filbert said that this is just one step in the many they are planning to beautify Hewitt.

Donna May Klebs has opened a new shop in Bertha. It is located in the former Bertha Farm Supply building on the north end of the business district in Bertha. Donna May’s Crafts will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. She makes pot holders, pillows, John Deere crafts, t-shirts of all sizes and more.

75 Years Ago

August 2, 1951

Voters of Bertha School District #51 voted overwhelmingly in the special election to purchase the Louis Martin property for the school. The vote was 170 in favor and 16 opposed.

Special services will be held at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Sunday afternoon to lay the cornerstone of the new sanctuary. Reverend P.J. Affeld of Brainerd, the circuit visitor, will be the speaker. The following articles will be placed in the cornerstone: a Lutheran catechism, the Lutheran hymnal, the Synodical handbook and the latest Lutheran Witness and the Minnesota Lutheran.
