News from Bertha's and Hewitt's Pasts

25 Years Ago

April 17, 1996

Ann Neil has been a teacher for 16 years. She hardly looks old enough to have been teaching that many years. This school year she was chosen as Teacher of the Year at the Bertha-Hewitt School. She graduated from St. Olaf college in 1979 earning her B.A. in English education and religion. Since 1979, she has earned over 60 graduate credits in the areas of reading, discipline, motivation, computers, and technology.

Chris Chase and Tasha Boehland received the B-H Student Recognition Awards. Chris and Tasha were nominated by their teachers. Students who receive the award are students who promote the school. They are an asset to the school and have helped the school improve just because of them being there. The award recognizes exceptional students who have good attitudes and who set good examples for their peers.


75 Years Ago

April 18, 1946

The Bertha Locker Plant, owned by E.E. Hitter of Sauk Centre, will open for business on April 22. Estimates of experts who have viewed the local locker plant state this institution is an outstanding one of its kind in the state. More than 500 lockers are available.

Mrs. Eunice Mitton, a member of the local school faculty, has filed for the office of county superintendent, a position she held for a number of years prior to coming to the Bertha School.
