25 Years Ago

May 15, 1996

The home of Steve and Robin Wegscheid was severely damaged by fire last Wednesday evening. Nobody was home around 8 p.m. when Bob Sliter was driving by and saw flames coming out of the northeast corner of the house. The Hewitt and Wadena fire departments chopped a hole in the roof. Harold Tritsch said that between the fire, smoke, and water damage, the house and belongings were a total loss.

Joshua Hennagir, son of Kevin and Ida Hennagir of Bertha, participated in the May 1-5 National Leadership Conference of Business Professionals of America in Phoenix, Arizona. Josh received 12th place in the spreadsheet competition.


75 Years Ago

May 16, 1946

Carl E Erickson, St. Cloud attorney, who recently returned from military duty in the Pacific area, serving as Lieutenant Colonel and General MacArthur’s staff, will address the regular monthly meeting of the Commercial Club on Tuesday evening at the Congregational Church parlors.

The final tally for the Bertha-Hewitt Board of Education was: Willis Amundson, 193; Duane Kneisl, 169; Harold Oyster, 143; and Kenneth Lind, 143.
