February 26, 1998
After serving our community for 42 years, Pharmacist Vince Leisen has decided to call it quits. Vince said he is already “waking up at night missing people” and worrying about some customers not being able to get to another town to pick up their prescriptions. Vince, who is a deacon at Christ the King, said he plans to continue his work at the church and looks forward to meeting the new priest expected in July. All of Leisen’s prescription records and computer are at Clarissa Drug so the information is available locally.

Gram Bentz and Mitch Becker are headed to the Minnesota Wrestling Tournament which starts Thursday and continues through Saturday, February 28. Gram’s first match will be against Russ Pool from Rockford. Gram defeated Pool earlier this season. Mitch will face off against Miah Fitzgerald from Martin County West and the winner will face Andy White from Pine Island. Andy is ranked number one in the state.

The Farmers Cooperative Creamery had another big year, over one-half million dollars was paid to local patrons for cream and milk during the past year. The annual meeting of the local Farmers Cooperative Creamery Association will be held in Browerville at St. Peter’s Hall on Thursday, March 4, at 10 a.m. Free lunch will be served at noon. Election of two directors, reading of the secretary’s annual report, and other business that may come before the meeting will be discussed.

The stork is a busy bird and can’t wait for stalled cars to be shoveled out. So while Alvis Brever was on his way with Mrs. Brever to the hospital, and ended up digging out of a January 26 snowdrift, the stork dropped his package and hurried away on another errand. A husky baby boy announced his arrival. Mother and son were taken into a nearby home, then back to their own home. All are doing nicely.
