25 Years Ago

September 3, 1998

Lieutenant Colonel Steven P. Goligowski has been selected to command the Combat Equipment Battalion-Northeast Asia located at Camp Carroll, South Korea, near the city of Taegu. CEB-NEA is responsible to store and maintain all Army war reserve stocks in the Pacific. In case of a war or other crisis, they provide the combat equipment and supplies necessary to outfit the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.

Christ the King School warmly embraces two new additions to their teaching staff, Michelle Irsfeld, kindergarten teacher, and Elizabeth Swenson, first grade teacher. Browerville High School has a new teacher, Deron Stender. He is the advisor for Future Business Leaders of America, as well as the school-to-work and technology coordinator. He is also the North Dakota Secondary Vocational Representative.


75 Years Ago

September 2, 1948

The Browerville Commercial Club will sponsor a beauty queen contest at the American Legion celebration held September 5-6 at Long Prairie. Miss Mary Jane Gorghuber, local dairy days queen, is an entrant.

The casketed remains of Allen Lemm of Browerville, a World War II deceased member of the Army, arrived here last Thursday morning and lay in state at the Iten & Heid Funeral Home all day Thursday. Military services under the direction of the local VFW and American Legion Posts were held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Friday morning with Reverend Father Kraemer reading the mass. Internment was at the St. Peter’s Cemetery. Pfc. Lemm was killed in action on Luzon in the Philippine Islands on January 28, 1945.
